Project snapshot

Town(s): Plumpton, Rockbank,

Status: Under construction

Cost: $4.5 million

Expected Completion Date: Early 2017

This essential drinking water project is part of our preparation for rapid residential development and population growth in Rockbank and Rockbank North.

Why is this project needed?

We’re installing a new water main to ensure we can provide quality drinking water to the rapidly growing communities of Rockbank and Rockbank North.

What will the works involve?

We’ll be constructing 5.5km of a 45cm diameter water main along the roadside of Leakes Road.

Work starts at the Melton Highway in Plumpton, goes under the Western Freeway and train line, and ends at Station Street, Rockbank.

While the construction of the pipeline will be predominately open cut trenching, it involves boring including under:

  • Melton Highway
  • Kororoit Creek
  • an environmentally sensitive area
  • Western Freeway (3 bores in total to cross the ramps and main carriageway)
  • Leakes Road
  • Melbourne–Ballarat railway line.

When will the works take place?

Our contractor is due on site in April 2016. Weather permitting, we expect to finish the project by early 2017.

Western Water appreciates your cooperation during this essential work.

Working hours?

Our working hours are 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday’s 8.00am to 1.00pm.

Will traffic be affected?

We expect impacts on traffic to be minimal. However, on some occasions our team will need to undertake work in the roadway, including crossing Leakes Road.

For your safety, and that of our team, traffic management will be in place as required − we ask for your understanding at these times.

You will notice increased traffic along Leakes Road as our contractor goes about their work.

Will there be interruptions to my water service?

We don’t anticipate any interruption to your water service during the course of our work.
