Celebrating trainee graduation at Western Water

3 October 2018

Trainees Cassidy Pitts and Luke Papaevangeliou have reasons to smile—they both recently graduated with Certificate III’s and secured employment with Western Water.

Cassidy, 19, of Sunbury, graduated with a Certificate III in Business Administration. Luke, also 19 and a Hillside resident, completed his Certificate Three in Water Industry Operations.

The Certificate III’s are a tremendous achievement and testament to their hard work during the 18 months it took to complete the training.

Cassidy now works an administration assistant based at Western Water’s Macedon Street head office. Luke is a member of Western Water’s Field Services Team, responsible for the maintenance of sewer and water pipes and pump stations.

Cassidy joined Western Water after completing her VCE at Sunbury Downs Secondary College.

During her traineeship, she assisted the faults and emergency team, learned tasks such as reception and cashier, and supported the metering and billing team.

Cassidy says the traineeship has been a terrific opportunity. “It’s given me hands-on experience in dealing with people, performing office tasks and serving customers.  It was also great to be able to apply my study during work tasks, which helped make what I learned really practical.”

Luke commenced his traineeship after finishing his VCE at Lakeview Senior College, Caroline Springs. Obtaining a full-time opportunity was reward for the hard work put in during his traineeship.

“I have loved every minute of it. I really enjoy working outdoors and the guys are really supportive, which is fantastic. I can see myself doing this for a long time to come,” he says.

General Manager Customer and Community Relations, Graham Holt, says Western Water has offered traineeships across many areas of its business, including field operations, people and culture, water treatment and the customer team.
