Scholarship for future industry leader

4 December 2017

Western Water asset engineer Dean Phillips has been awarded a scholarship to take part in the International Water Centre’s leadership program.

The International Water Centre (IWC), based in Brisbane, provides advanced education and training, applied research and consulting to  promote integrated water management.

Mr Phillips will travel to Brisbane to undertake a week-long workshop, followed by further training throughout 2018.

The program aims to help emerging leaders to develop the abilities they need to exert influence, drive change and advance challenging integrated water management projects.

Western Water’s Managing Director, Neil Brennan, says it’s important for the organisation to take a global outlook and keep abreast of best practice across the water industry.

"This is a great opportunity for Dean, who has the potential to become a future leader in the industry."

Mr Phillips says the program will help him refine his project management and organisation skills to as challenges facing the water industry become more complex.

"It’s an exciting time to be in the industry, and I’m looking forward to bringing new skills back to Western Water."
