Strong communities, growing together: Western Water annual report

Serviced properties in the Western Water region grew by 5.5% over the past 12 months, according to its annual report released today.

Customer growth has occurred primarily in new residential estates in Melton and Sunbury, but Moorabool and Macedon Ranges towns are also growing. Growth is expected to continue at a rate of 4.6% for the next year.

Other highlights detailed in the report include:

  • Western Water passed the Department of Health and Human Services Drinking Water Quality Audit.
  • 35% of all drinking water was supplied from local reservoirs compared to 24% the year before due to good supplies of water available at the commencement of the financial year.
  • A greenhouse gas emissions reduction pathway was created to meet the agreed Carbon Pledge of 10% reduction in emissions by 2020 and 25% reduction by 2025.
  • Ten per cent of customers have taken up e-billing and nine per cent of customers are on payment plans.
  • The business expanded its Community Engagement Committee to encompass the environment.
  • $62.4 million was spent on capital works.
  • A grant was obtained to progress the planning and implementation of a Food Waste to Energy facility at the Melton Recycled Water Plant.

Acting Managing Director Rob Murphy says Western Water is focussed on ensuring regional sustainability by delivering customer-centric, responsive services and enhanced community engagement.
