Water Week poster competition winners

The best young artists from across the Western Water region have received prizes for their posters celebrating National Water Week.

This year’s Water Week theme is “Water – the Heart of our Culture”, aimed at encouraging people to understand how water shapes our lives through the natural world, recreation and community values.

Around 500 primary school students across the region the competition, with winners to be announced at an event in Gisborne last week.

This year’s winners, who received vouchers and a jigsaw puzzle made from their artwork, were:


Winner: John, Melton South Primary

Equal second: Levi, St Anthony’s Primary and Jasmina (pictured), St Anthony’s Primary

Grade 1-2

Winner: Anouk, Melton South Primary

Second prize: Asher, Gisborne Primary

Equal third: Lucy, Melton South Primary and Erin, Gisborne Primary

Grade 3-4  

Winner: Dieing, St Anthony’s Primary

Second prize: Hibba, Melton South Primary

Third prize: Erika, St Anthony’s Primary

Grade 5-6

Winner: Georgia, Lancefield Primary

Second prize: Mikayla, St Anthony’s Primary

Third prize: Hauyie, Killara Primary

Special award for artistic merit: Clair, Lancefield Primary.

St Anthony’s Primary School in Melton was also awarded a special school prize for its contribution to the competition. The $500 prize will go towards a water or sustainability project at the school.
