Western Water announces Managing Director's resignation

10 July 2018

Andrew Cairns, Chairperson of Western Water, today announced the resignation of Managing Director Neil Brennan.

After nearly six years at the helm of the organisation, Mr Brennan is leaving Western Water to pursue a career as the Chief Executive Officer of SEQWATER (Queensland).

"Under Neil’s leadership, Western Water has been able to deliver some of the most affordable water and sewerage services to Victorian households while also supporting the needs of some of the fastest growing and diverse residential precincts in the state" said Mr Cairns.

"Neil has successfully positioned Western Water as an industry leader in innovation and community inclusion and has delivered a culture of excellence, collaboration and cooperation".

"Neil has been an outstanding Managing Director and leader for Western Water," Mr Cairns said.

"Neil has overseen a period of considerable growth and change as we work to deliver affordable and efficient services to the communities in which we serve. Neil has represented Western Water, our communities, our state and the broader Victorian water industry well."

During his tenure, Mr Brennan oversaw the implementation of some key projects that serve to protect and support the western region’s future needs, such as the upgrade of the Sunbury Recycled Water Treatment Plant. This also included driving industry leadership in recycled water services, innovation in alternative sources of energy, strong community and customer engagement, and collaboration with other water corporations to drive efficiency.

In addition, Mr Brennan has ensured that Western Water has been an industry leader in gender diversity. His leadership will also be missed in organisations such as the Institute of Water Administration, Intelligent Water Network, and the Energy and Water Ombudsman Victoria.

"The Board would like to thank Neil for his invaluable service and extends its best wishes for this next chapter in his career. Our Board, and all of our staff, will be sad to see Neil leave."

Mr Brennan’s last day with Western Water will be Friday 3 August 2018.  The Western Water Board will shortly be commencing an extensive open market recruitment process for the role of Managing Director.
