Woodend Recycled Water Plant sewer overflow

11 May 2018

Western Water has contained a sewer spill into Five Mile Creek in Woodend.

A temporary power failure during severe weather caused an overflow at Woodend Recycled Water Plant for a short period of time.

Crews have stopped the overflow and are conducting a site assessment, including collecting water samples.

Significant rainfall has generated high flows into the Five Mile Creek which is assisting to dilute the impact.

As a precaution, land owners downstream of the plant at Montgomery’s Lane are advised to stop drawing water from the creek.

Water quality testing in the creek will continue over the coming days.

The Environment Protection Authority has been notified.
