Community Garden Grants

Ten community organisations across Western Water's service area have received $1000 grants under our Sammy’s Community Garden Grants program.

The organisations that have been awarded grants are:
• Lancefield Community Garden
• Gisborne Kindergarten
• Swinburne Avenue Kindergarten in Gisborne
• Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House
• Macedon Kindergarten
• Deep Creek Landcare Group
• Melton Community Garden
• Hume Men’s Shed in Sunbury
• Jill Gibbs Community Garden in Sunbury
• Young Street Pre-school in Bacchus Marsh

“These grants will be used to create or improve sustainable gardens across the region,” Western Water’s Managing Director, Neil Brennan, says.

“In particular it is great to see different community groups coming together, as with the Lancefield Community Garden, which is a partnership between the town’s Primary School and Neighbourhood House.”

The grants will be used for work such as creating or improving vegetable gardens, installing tanks and pumps, and creating native gardens to attract wildlife and showcase the work of Landcare groups.

The grants, named for Western Water’s slithering mascot, Sammy the Snake, are part of the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, which aims to give back to the community.
