Melton and Moorabool switch to local water sources

16 December 2010

Western Water has begun supplying Melton and Moorabool with water from the Merrimu Reservoir.

Customers may notice slight changes in the colour or taste of their tap water as a result of the switch.

Until recently, water levels in Merrimu were so low that the region was being supplied with water from Melbourne catchments.

Heavy Spring rains this year have filled Merrimu to over 70 per cent of capacity, compared to around 10 per cent at the same time last year.

We will continue to use Melbourne water to supplement the supply from Merrimu and ensure it remains at a sustainable level.

All drinking water supplied to our customers will continue to meet the strictest criteria for quality and safety.

Customers who have any questions about their tap water should contact Western Water on 1300 650 425.
