Water: LeARN IT! Live It!
Western Water is delivering a new FREE water education resource to all schools in our service area.
For Prep to Year 10, “Water: Learn It! Live It!” (“Water LiLi”) was jointly developed by Melbourne’s water businesses: City West Water, South East Water, Yarra Valley Water and Melbourne Water.
A new adaptation of “Water LiLi”, designed specifically for non-urban schools, has been developed by the Victorian regional and rural water businesses, including Western Water.
Topics covered in this comprehensive resource include:
- What is water? What are its properties?
- The natural water cycle: exploring one of the great ecological systems on the planet
- Your local water cycle: Where does your drinking water come from?
- How is your sewage treated?
- Water use and conservation – in Victoria and beyond
- Impacts on water supply: discovering the effects of drought, population growth, land use and climate change in Victoria
- Alternative water supply: investigating recycled water, desalination and other sources
- Water and society: the influences of water on culture (religion, language, literature and recreation)
"Water LiLi" provides:
- practical and theoretical classroom activities for each topic
- unit planners and case studies to help teachers implement the ideas in the resource
- a handy directory of relevant incursions, excursions and websites.
The complete resource is available free of charge on a CD-ROM and as a hardcopy folder.
“Water LiLi” is part of the Our Water, Our Future behavioural change campaign, coordinated by the Department of Sustainability and Environment.
Saving water in Education: SaveWater!
savewater!® has developed a comprehensive education program encouraging environmental sustainability for students in years 6 to 10.
In addition, they have compiled a list of links to some fantastic Australian websites dedicated to education programs for water and water conservation as well as some ideas for incorporating water and water conservation into education programs.
