School Incursion Topics

The Water Cycle - Years P - 2
Your students will become water droplets, the ocean, plants, clouds, rivers or the sun as they learn about evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. Every child will take part in this fun role play. This session includes amazing science demonstrations: see a cloud in a jar and a flying teabag!

Waterwise! - Years 1 - 6
In our dry land, water is precious. Your students will discover many simple changes they can make at home and at school to reduce water use and help secure our supply for the future. They will also meet Western Water's well-loved mascot Sammy the Snake.

From Reservoir to You - Years 3 - 6
How do we make water from reservoirs safe for drinking? What are flocculation particles and sludge blankets? Your students will find answers to these question through fascinating science demonstrations and will work in groups to make their own water filters. This presentation combines well with a free tour of a water filtration plant.

Water for Health - Years 4 - 6
Your students will follow the path of water through the body to discover the benefits of this life-giving liquid, compared to other drinks. They will also brew their own cola drink to learn about the sugar, colourings, flavourings and caffeine it contains.

Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow - Years 5 - 6
From Aboriginal legends and Ancient Roman toilets to the Snowy Mountains Scheme, your students will explore our changing relationship to water. They will also imagine the future of water, from pipelines and recycled water to desalination. This session involves group work, using buckets of information to prepare a report for the whole class.

Recycled Water Man & Woman, Superheroes of Sustainability - Years 4 - 8
A superhero will fly to your school, or meet your group at a Recycled Water Plant (Melton or Sunbury) for a free presentation and tour.
