Recycled water is replacing the use of precious drinking water for the following purposes across the region:
- Recreational turf
- Olive Groves
- Wash down
- Fodder Crops
- Christmas Tree Plantation
- Tree Plantations
- Fire Fighting
- Public Open Spaces
- Botanic Gardens
- Racecourse Irrigation
- Council Use
- Dairy Crops
Class B & C recycled water can be used for approved agricultural purposes, significantly reducing the demand placed on our precious drinking water supplies. Approved agricultural uses of recycled water currently include*:
- Irrigation of human food crops grown over a meter above the ground and eaten raw, for example apples, pears & table grapes.
- Human food crops cooked or processed before sale to consumers, for example wheat, wine grapes and olives.
- Irrigation of pasture and fodder for some grazing animals including sheep, goats and horses.
