Building Sustainable Communities
Western Water supplies Class A recycled water to residents in the townships of Eynesbury and Toolern via a piped supply called dual reticulation. Water is supplied from our new Class A Recycled Water Plant at Melton.
Every home supplied with Class A recycled water has dual water supply pipes – one for drinking and one for Class A recycled water. Potable (drinking) water supply is for drinking, bathing and showering: while Class A recycled water is for toilet flushing, garden watering, car washing and domestic outdoor uses (excluding swimming pools and recreational toys). Class A recycled water is also available for commercial and industrial use, fire fighting and public open space irrigation.
Eynesbury and Toolern showcase state of the art urban water design. The townships feature an integrated approach towards water efficiency, water recycling, and regional stormwater treatment and recirculation.
Class A Recycled Water and Co-Generation Plant
Not only does the supply of Class A recycled water significantly reduce the pressure placed on valuable drinking water, it also reduces pressure on our energy resources as it is powered by 100% renewable energy from our own biogas cogeneration facility.
The benefits of Class A for residential customers and use of our cogeneration plant include:
- Up to 50% reduction in drinking water for new developments
- Greater than 50% saving in carbon emissions
- To date over 500 million litres of drinking water has been saved through the use of recycled water at Eynesbury.
