Melton Waste to Energy Facility

Following final Government approvals, Western Water will construct a facility to treat organic food waste at Melton Recycled Water Plant to generate additional biogas for renewable energy.

The innovative Melton Waste to Energy Facility will reduce Western Water’s greenhouse gas emissions while extracting the full value from local food waste, potentially decreasing the amount of food waste going to landfill and associated transportation costs.

The Melton Waste to Energy Facility, which is supported by a grant from Sustainability Victoria’s Waste to Energy Infrastructure Fund, is expected to be operational early in 2021.
