The plant treats sewage from Gisborne, New Gisborne, Macedon and Mount Macedon. The upgrade will allow Western Water to meet demand from the growing population, improve recycled water quality & reduce energy consumption.
This project will proceed subject to Government approval.
Detailed investigation identified upgrading the plant on the existing site as the best option for managing local demand for wastewater services through to 2035.
As plans are developed for the upgrade, we will engage with stakeholders (including Council, Government, EPA, waterways and environment groups and traditional owners) and local residents to ensure the upgrade delivers the best outcomes for the community and environment.
Our next steps are to undertake detailed design including environmental and cultural heritage investigations as required. We will also secure contractors and complete design and construction for preparatory works on site in late 2020.
Subject to final approval, we expect the main contract to design and build the plant upgrade will commence by mid-2021.
This page will continue to be updated as the project develops.
