The meeting signals the end of a sustained period of engagement for the $53 million upgrade.
The group, which consists of residents and community group members, first met in October 2014 and has provided valuable feedback to Western Water.
Western Water seeks to actively engage with the community and stakeholders wherever possible. This includes capital works, the Price Submission, Development Forum and projects such as Sunbury’s Water Future.
For the Sunbury RWP upgrade project, it was identified early on how important it was to speak to the local community about the Sunbury project and the reasons for the upgrade.
Throughout the process, Western Water actively engaged residents and the wider community, giving them a forum to provide direct feedback on the project.
More broadly, the local community has also been engaged, including prior to and during upgrade works. Residents near the plant have received letters and project update newsletters and regular updates have been published to the Western Water website, Facebook and Instagram.
Bob Rau, PRG Chair, has attended every meeting and noted the value of the engagement process.
“The Group has been able to identify issues, discuss concerns and have them addressed directly by project staff. It has worked really well and is a model of how engagement can work,” he said.
The Sunbury Recycled Water Plant upgrade will increase treatment capacity by 56%, from 5.9 million litres to 9.2 million litres per day. Despite significantly increasing its treatment capacity, the upgraded plant will operate within the same footprint.
Works are expected to be completed in the next few weeks.
