Upcoming water supply changes in the Macedon Ranges

1 November 2019

Western Water customers in the Macedon Ranges may soon notice a change in their drinking water as several towns switch their supply source.

Drinking water for the following towns will soon come from Rosslynne Reservoir (near Gisborne) instead of the Melbourne supply system:

  • Gisborne
  • New Gisborne
  • Gisborne South
  • Riddells Creek
  • Macedon
  • Mount Macedon.

What will I notice?

When the change occurs, some customers may notice a slight change in the taste of their water. It's normal to notice the change when switching from one supply source to another.

The drinking water supplied by Western Water is high quality, safe and meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Why is this happening?

Western Water uses multiple sources of water to provide a secure water supply to customers.

To plan for the peak summer period, Western Water has been transferring water from the Melbourne system into Rosslynne Reservoir. The reservoir is now at 26% of capacity (up from 17.5% in April 2019).
