Bacchus Marsh and surrounds

Bacchus Marsh is located 50km north west of Melbourne within the Shire of Moorabool.

Traditionally known for its market gardens, Bacchus Marsh is becoming a popular commuter town and is experiencing strong population growth.

Western Water services the following locations in the Bacchus Marsh area:

  • Bacchus Marsh
  • Coimadai
  • Darley
  • Hopetoun Park
  • Maddingley
  • Merrimu
  • Myrniong
  • Parwan
  • Pentland Hills 

Water

We use a number of water sources to ensure we can meet demand in Bacchus Marsh, even when inflows are low. 

Water for towns in the Bacchus Marsh area can be sourced from:

  • Merrimu Reservoir, treated at the Merrimu Water Filtration Plant, and
  • the Melbourne supply system.

Myrniong’s water can be sourced from:

  • Pykes Creek Reservoir, treated at the Myrniong Water Filtration Plant. This supply is not fluoridated.
  • carting water from Merrimu Reservoir, treated at the Merrimu Water Filtration Plant and/or the Melbourne supply system (both these supplies are fluoridated).

Sewage

Sewage from the Bacchus Marsh area is treated at the Bacchus Marsh Recycled Water Plant, in Parwan.

Recycled water

Bacchus Marsh Recycled Water Plant produces Class C recycled water.

The recycled water is used to irrigate local farms.
