Dive in and enjoy these watery resources for lower primary!

Through discussion, stories and experiments children will learn about and explore our most precious resource, water! These activities engage children in learning, collaboration and thinking about the water cycle, weather, health and mindfulness.

We'd love to see what you create and how you get involved in National Water Week. Simply share your completed activities, artworks or experiments, either by scanning or taking a photo, and send to education@gww.com.au. We can’t wait to see your creations!

Theme: Traditional Owners - Connection to Land and Water

This activity is available for the duration of the Online Learning Festival.

  • The Water Cycle Collage (Science, The Arts): Use a variety of materials to get creative and produce your own collage of the water cycle. Download the ACTIVITY SHEET(2MB).

These activities are available for the duration of the Online Learning Festival.

  • Mapping your taps (Maths): Explore your house and backyard and be surprised to discover just how many taps you have. Download the ACTIVITY SHEET.

  • Kitchen Science - Make a Cola drink activity (Science, Health): Make a Cola drink following our instructions. Discuss why water is the best choice for healthy bodies! Download the ACTIVITY SHEET(2MB)

Theme: Water in the backyard and the environment

These activities are available for the duration of the Online Learning Festival.

  • Make tiny twig rafts (Science): Make two teams in your family - each team builds a 'tiny twig raft' using twigs and brown string. Find and visit a local waterway - creek, stream, river or lake, and test your rafts - see which team's raft floats for the longest! Try to add some rocks to the rafts and see if they still float?! Theme: Water For Health

These activities are available for the duration of the Online Learning Festival.

  • Healthy food stories (Literacy): Read aloud to your class, share our magical story about the Apple Star and discover a wonderful surprise along the way! (Make sure you are prepared with a fresh apple to share with your class – you will need it as part of the story!) Learn about how water is so very precious for all life on Earth.   • Healthy eating paper plate (Health, The Arts): Using collage materials, craft glue and a paper plate, make a plate of healthy food choices. Share with your siblings, friends or classmates - did you make the foods as colourful and healthy as possible? Download the ACTIVITY SHEET.
  • Water mindfulness colouring (Yoga and Mindfulness): Take some deep breaths, find somewhere relaxing to sit, and use your favourite textas or pencils to complete our mindfulness colouring activity. Download the ACTIVITY SHEET.

  • Birdlife AustraliaJoin Dr Holly Parson from Birdlife Australia and explore with the wonderful world of birds. View video here.
  • Become a meteorologist (Science, Literacy, The Arts): Track the weather for a week and draw or write about what you observe each day. Choose the day with the most interesting weather and film yourself presenting a short weather report! Try to include a funny weather joke to make people laugh.
  • Make a simple rain gauge (Science): Use our instructions and find out how much rain falls in your area. Download the ACTIVITY SHEET(428KB).

Theme: Exploring local waterways and making a difference in our community!

Spend some time over the weekend enjoying your local waterways and natural environment, having fun with water and making some family goals to become more waterwise and sustainable at home!
