Water supply update for customers in Lancefield and Romsey

17 March 2021

Western Water is changing the water supply in Lancefield and Romsey.

Lancefield will soon have water from the Melbourne system blended with their local water supplies.

Romsey will continue to receive a blend of local water and water from the Melbourne supply system.

Unlike Romsey and Lancefield’s local water supply, water from the Melbourne system is fluoridated, in line with Department of Health and Human Services requirements.

If customers have questions about water fluoridation they can call the Department’s Water Unit on 1300 761 874.

What will I notice when the supply changes?

Some customers may notice a slight change to the taste and smell of their water.

The water supplied will continue to meet the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines for health and safety.

Why does the water supply change?

Western Water uses a number of water sources to ensure a secure water supply for customers.

Typically, Western Water supplies Romsey and Lancefield with water from local sources. However, during drier times or times of high demand, we can supplement this supply with water from Rosslynne Reservoir or Melbourne.

From time to time, we may also need to change supply when upgrade works are being carried out, or when weather conditions increase demand.

How can I reduce my water use?

Target 155 is a voluntary water conservation program to encourage customers to use 155 litres of water or less per person per day.
