Reservoirs

Keep track of reservoir levels, see how much water is being used and view our annual water outlooks here.

In the area previously serviced by Western Water, Greater Western Water has two main water storages, Rosslynne Reservoir and Merrimu Reservoir, both of which are managed by Southern Rural Water. These reservoirs supply the Melton and Bacchus Marsh (Merrimu) and Macedon Ranges and Sunbury (Rosslynne) districts.

Greater Western Water manages a number of smaller reservoirs in and around the Macedon Ranges. The region is also connected to the Melbourne water supply which can be used when local supplies are low.

Surcharging and pre-release policy

Greater Western Water’s surcharge and pre-release infrastructure associated with its water storage dams and reservoirs is very limited, and as such Greater Western Water is not in a position to undertake any surcharge or pre-release prior to flood events.

Greater Western Water’s storages are equipped with spillways which allow flood waters to spill from the storage if it is at full capacity. Greater Western Water will monitor storages during and post flood events and will respond as required.
