Project snapshot

Town(s): Bacchus Marsh

Status: Complete

Cost: $870,000

Expected Completion Date: Complete

What does this project involve?

Construction of a new water pipeline along Griffith Street, from Franklin Street west to Barry Street. Work involves the laying of 800m of water pipe in the road reserve on the north side of Griffith Street.

Why is this project needed?

The project is part of works to improve water pressure downstream to businesses and rural properties in Parwan, an area projected to have economic growth in coming years. The pipe will connect into a new 800m water pipe along Parwan Road, between South Maddingley Road and East Maddingley Road. This pipe was constructed in February 2021 as part of the Maddingley Sewer and Water Project.

When will construction start?

Construction started in March and is expected to be complete by July 2021, weather permitting. Contractor DKM Utility Services will carry out the work on our behalf. Construction is a combination of open cut trenching and boring.

Work hours will be 7.30am–5.00pm Monday to Friday. Work may also be undertaken on Saturdays, if required.

There will be no interruption to water or sewerage services during works.

What impacts can I expect during construction?

Traffic

Only minor changes in traffic or road conditions are anticipated as construction is mainly in the grassed area alongside the road. Traffic management will be in place during this time.

Noise

Some noise can be expected from the operation of machinery but this will occur during the daytime, thereby minimising any disruption.

Visual

There will be excavation work visible on the roadside. Fencing, barricades and trench covers may be used near the work site to ensure public safety.

What do we consider when planning a project?

There are several factors that inform our project planning. These include environmental and geotechnical impacts, cultural heritage, specialist investigations (such as a biodiversity assessment), population forecasts, location of other underground services (e.g. electricity, phone/internet, gas lines) and accessibility.

Consideration of future infrastructure in the area, such as major roads and drainage scheme infrastructure is pivotal to our planning along with advice from key stakeholders such as Moorabool Shire Council, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Landcare, Melbourne Water, Vicroads, VicTrack, and Southern Rural Water.
