Sunbury, Diggers Rest and Bulla

Sunbury is a large town located within the City of Hume 39km north west of Melbourne’s CBD.

Sunbury is included within Melbourne’s urban growth boundary and is experiencing strong population growth. Diggers Rest and Bulla are growing communities, near Sunbury.

We use a number of water sources to ensure we can meet local demand even when inflows are low.

Water in the area can be sourced from:

  • the Melbourne supply system, and
  • Rosslynne Reservoir, near Gisborne, and treated at the Rosslynne Water Filtration Plant.

Sewage from the area is treated at the Sunbury Recycled Water Plant, east of town.

Recycled water

Sunbury Recycled Water Plant produces Class B recycled water.

The recycled water is used to irrigate local farms, sportsfields and recreation areas.

Greater Western Water has a licence to discharge excess recycled water volumes to Jacksons Creek under strict conditions set by the Environment Protection Authority.
