Sunbury is included within Melbourne’s urban growth boundary and is experiencing strong population growth. Diggers Rest and Bulla are growing communities, near Sunbury.

Sewage from the area is treated at the Sunbury Recycled Water Plant, east of town.
Sunbury Recycled Water Plant produces Class B recycled water.
The recycled water is used to irrigate local farms, sportsfields and recreation areas.
Greater Western Water has a licence to discharge excess recycled water volumes to Jacksons Creek under strict conditions set by the Environment Protection Authority.
Strong population growth is expected to continue for the Sunbury area. To cater for this and ensure we remain compliant with relevant legislation and standards, the following projects are underway:

We are building a new water pipeline from Moore Road, Sunbury to Davis Road, Diggers Rest.
The population in the Sunbury region is expected to double in the next 20 years.
We upgraded the recycled water plant that services Sunbury and Diggers Rest.
We constructed a two-kilometre long sewer pipe to service growth in Diggers Rest’s new housing estates.
