Moore Road to Diggers Rest water pipeline

We are building a new water pipeline from Moore Road, Sunbury to Davis Road, Diggers Rest.

Project snapshot

Town(s): Sunbury

Status: Under construction

Cost: $2.87m

Expected Completion Date: TBA

What does this project involve?

The project involves the laying of 600mm pipe in the road reserve along Moore Road, Sunbury, and a 375mm pipe from Moore Road to land just north of Davis Road, Diggers Rest. Work also involves boring underneath the Calder Freeway and Vineyard Road.

Why is this project needed?

The pipeline is needed to service residential growth in the newer parts of Diggers Rest, which includes Bloomdale Estate.

When will construction start?

Construction will start in early April and is expected to be complete by June 2021, weather permitting. Work hours will be 7.30am–5.00pm Monday to Friday. Work may also be undertaken on Saturdays, if required.

Negri Contractors Pty Ltd will carry out the work on our behalf. Construction is a combination of open cut trenching and boring.

There will be no interruption to water or sewerage services during works.

What impacts can I expect during construction?

There may be some changes in traffic flow along Moore Road but traffic management will be in place.

We will be working across several driveways on the northern side of Moore Road to trench and lay pipe. We will notify affected property owners beforehand of when trenching is to start, and will work with affected properties to minimise impacts to the greatest extent possible. At the completion of work, each driveway will be reinstated.

Some noise can be expected from the operation of machinery but this will occur during the daytime, thereby minimising any disruption.

There will be excavation work visible on the roadside. Fencing, barricades and trench covers may be used near the work site to ensure public safety.

What do we consider when planning a project?

There are several factors that inform our project planning. These include environmental and geotechnical impacts, cultural heritage, specialist investigations (such as a biodiversity assessment), population forecasts, location of other underground services (e.g. electricity, phone/internet, gas lines) and accessibility.

Consideration of future infrastructure in the area, such as major roads and drainage scheme infrastructure is pivotal to our planning along with advice from key stakeholders such as Moorabool Shire Council, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Landcare, Melbourne Water, Vicroads, VicTrack, and Southern Rural Water
